The possibilities for 3D mapping are infinite — ranging from wireless planning, city planning, infrastructure management, disaster management, and environmental monitoring to applications in public health and academic research.

AW3D Data Sets

RESTEC, which offers the AW3D data sets, has established a vast network of 3D maps that digitally depict terrain, ground undulations, and the heights of trees and buildings worldwide in the highest resolution available. RESTEC’s 3D maps are defined by elite performance, cost-effectiveness, short delivery times, and unmatched flexibility. The quality of this 3D data will only improve as the number of available satellites increases and satellite-mounted sensors become more sophisticated.

AW3D TELECOM FOR 5G

Accurate, low-cost, and expansive, the AW3D Telecom is the ideal 3D elevation dataset for simulating wireless signal propagation. Thanks to its high accuracy, it complies with most telecommunication operators' standards. It’s also compatible with signal propagation analyses, such as car-to-car communication in a self-driving system. L3Harris provides complete datasets optimized for these purposes, including height values acquired from high-resolution satellites and land usage classification based on sensors.

Vector Data of buildings

The AW3D Building 3D elevation dataset uses the latest satellite imagery to bring ground features such as buildings, vegetation, and overpasses to life. Both the 2D footprint and height information of each building are provided as vector data, which can be bundled with other layers to create sophisticated digital vector maps.

This dataset is perfect for various simulation applications such as telecommunications, asset planning, and line-of-sight analysis.

Vector Data Services

L3Harris’ selection of high-quality custom mapping services is unmatched in the industry. Our expert photogrammetrists, programmers, and imagery scientists draw upon their vast experience and access to nearly all data types from top vendors to provide digital vector maps that remove project uncertainty so you can make swift decisions with confidence.

Aerial Survey Collection

Contour lines on a vector map represent terrain surfaces derived from the Digital Terrain Models (DTM). Contour lines are created by connecting points of equal elevation on DTMs. These lines provide valuable information about the shape, elevation, and slope of land, allowing users to visualize the terrain's characteristics in a dynamic representation.

  • Unmatched accuracy with intervals up to 1 foot.

Planimetric maps display the horizontal positions or locations of features on the Earth's surface. This includes roads, rivers, buildings, and other objects as they would appear when viewed from directly above, ignoring variations in elevation. These layers are derived from stereo pairs and triangulation, two techniques we use to accurately determine and represent the horizontal positions of features on a DTM.

Available planimetric features include:

  • Paved and Unpaved Surfaces
  • Airports (runways, taxiways, aprons, helipads)
  • Railroads
  • Manmade Structures
  • Water Features
  • Water Structures (bridges, dams, etc.)
  • Barriers
  • Utilities
  • Disturbed areas (construction sites, mines, quarries, etc.)
  • Landmark features
  • Street hardware (signs, billboards, bus stop shelters)
  • Vegetation (trees, orchards/nurseries, crops)

L3Harris and their partners are experts in feature extraction, the process of identifying and isolating specific geographic features from high-resolution imagery or data. These features can include buildings, roads, rivers, forests, and other elements present on the Earth's surface. Once identified, these features are delineated and represented as points, lines, or polygons within associated vector layers. We offer a total of 46 vector layers containing:

  • Hydrography
  • Industry
  • Population
  • Utility
  • High volume scalability

  • AMDB layers are derived from satellite imagery, which has been georeferenced using survey ground control points. Key airport features are digitized from the georeferenced imagery, resulting in location-specific point, line, and polygon vector feature classes.
  • AMDB layers are organized into 5 categories related to their function within the aerodrome: Runways, Taxiways, Aprons, Vertical Structures, and Other Data.
  • Detailed attributes are added to vector objects using image interpretation, publicly available airport diagrams, and customer-provided data. This attribution provides additional information beyond the spatial location, allowing the user to access specific details relating to the characteristics and function of aerodrome features.
