L3Harris Investing in Australia’s Defence Capabilities Through Centre of Excellence

BRISBANE, Australia, July 30, 2024 — The Albanese Government attended the L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:LHX) launch of its Centre of Excellence (COE) for Electronic Warfare (EW) today in Brisbane, Queensland. This facility will feature expertise in the design, manufacture, integration and sustainment of high-reliability EW technology critical for modern military operations.

Jennifer Howard MP, Assistant Minister for Treasury, Trade and Investment for Queensland, and Graham Perrett MP, Federal Member for Moreton and Member of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, officiated the centre’s launch.

“Queensland is a Defence state, and the government supports Defence industries via the Queensland Defence Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan, as well as the Queensland Space Industry Strategy. L3Harris’ new operations in Queensland will contribute to a vibrant and growing defence supply chain, with their investment helping them better support the needs of the Australian Defence Force and the Australian defence industry,” Howard said.

The COE will also serve as the hub for L3Harris’ space, intelligence and cyber products used across Australia and the Indo-Pacific region. This effort will bring L3Harris’ support and delivery centers closer to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and reduce turnaround times by increasing local manufacturing capabilities and jobs across new technologies for quantum sensing, robotics, secure communications and data management.

“The L3Harris Centre of Excellence for Electronic Warfare is a fantastic initiative that will grow our sovereign industrial base by contributing to a future made in Australia and equip the Australian Defence Force with the capabilities they need,” Perrett MP said.

The Australian facility will also enable the delivery of T4™ and T7™ robots to the ADF as part of the Land-154 program to enhance unit capabilities in improvised explosive device neutralisation and exploitation. The robots are equipped with cameras and best-in-class features that detect, examine and neutralise explosive threats and hazards to help protect Australian personnel.

“The launch of our Centre of Excellence is a clear signal of L3Harris’ commitment to lead and shape the future of defence technology in Australia, for Australia, by our incredibly talented local workforce,” said Ed Zoiss, President, Space and Airborne Systems, L3Harris. “As we embark on this journey, we extend our gratitude to the ADF for their trust and partnership.”

L3Harris has 15 locations across Australia employing more than 550 people with 30% of the workforce having served in the ADF. L3Harris provides mission systems, communication systems and dedicated support services to the Royal Australian Air Force, Navy and Army across all domains.
