If asked at the dinner table, how would you describe what you do?
I work as a business analytics manager with a project engineering focus. I currently work with engineering management and identify opportunities to correct engineering development processes based on past performance. I also work with program leadership to bring awareness of potential future issues based on current engineering performance.
Why do you like what you do?
I like working in business analytics and metrics within Space and Airborne Systems Engineering Process Excellence because I can help guide internal business decisions and influence process improvements to maximize our financial performance. I’ve used my engineering and business backgrounds to give a unique perspective in this area.
What is the future of your technology/product area?
Every business changes over time. As a result, our tracking of engineering metrics will have to be nimble. Artificial Intelligence methods will help us continue improving how and what metrics we track. Being able to automatically correlate inputs to our metrics with our financial bottom line will help us to understand how engineering development methods can affect our financial health.
Tell us about a time you overcame a major challenge in your career, and what contributed to your success?
In 2007, we developed a high-speed optical network device, 10Gbps Seamless Stitcher – 10GSS, to align SONET and OTN G.709 data at 10 Gbps. As part of the FPGA development team, I found that keeping a positive “can-do” attitude and work ethic helped us complete a successful demo with the customer.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to spend time with my family (Nylah, four months; Caleb, three years; Gideon, five years; and wife Lydia). I like to barbecue cook and experiment with new recipes at home. I also enjoy volunteering as a sound technician at church.
