Data Acquisition Storage Unit (DASU)

Product overview

The L3Harris DASU is a combination of an aircraft data and voice recorder and data acquisition unit specifically designed for aircraft Health & Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) programs. It enables an easy, reliable solution for technicians to quickly access and address aircraft health before it becomes an issue. The DASU provides up to up to 240 MB of crash-protected memory and 1 GB of maintenance memory. When accurate, detailed information about an aircraft incident and accident investigation is needed, operators choose the DASU as a critical tool.

  • 4 audio channels in accordance with ED-112
  • 8 ARINC 429 inputs
  • 2-strain gauge inputs with 4 excitation outputs
  • 12 analog inputs
  • Ethernet GSE (Generic Stream Encapsulation) interface

Key Features

HUMS addresses aircraft stress, strain

To help ensure that an aircraft is operating effectively, the DASU employs an aircraft Health & Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) program. The DASU collects aircraft flight and performance data from multiple digital data bus and analog, discrete and strain gauge inputs. By applying algorithms stored in the DASU working memory, the data from these sources is processed to identify whether the aircraft system and sub-system components, including the airframe itself, may require maintenance due to abnormal stress, fatigue and/or failure.

Data aids maintenance decisions

Once data is processed, maintenance personnel download it to laptop-based line test equipment for analysis. The comprehensive data is then available for maintenance experts to initiate the needed maintenance action or actions. This processed data, and pilot cockpit voice data, are stored in a Crash-Survivable Memory Unit (CSMU), which is integrated with the DASU.
